MU committees are central to the way the MU functions. They are key to our democratic structure, making sure the Union remains relevant and places members at the heart of our decision making.
We are now looking for members who wish to get involved in our Executive Committee and Regional Committees starting in 2025.
How the nomination process works
A nomination basically means that you make an application to be a member of a committee and it must be supported by another member (your nominator). If there are more valid nominations than available places, a ballot is held.
Our 2024 nomination process is completely online, opening on Monday 19 August 2024.
The closing date for nominations is Wednesday 18 September 2024 at 5:30pm, and is the same across all regions of the MU.
You can find full details of the nomination process on the website, including how to check that you are eligible to stand.
Please note that you will need to be logged into the website to complete the nomination form. Statements will also need to be submitted online by the same deadline of Wednesday 18 September 2024 at 5:30pm. There is no option to wait and see if your committee goes to a ballot.

Executive Committee (EC) election
The EC is the national governing body of the Musicians' Union, making major decisions that affect the working lives of musicians. It deals with many important issues such as industrial negotiations, employment policy and financial management.
It meets monthly with a combination of in person and online meetings. Given its role and responsibility, EC members would usually have been on other MU committees first or have had similar roles elsewhere.
Regional Committee (RC) election
Regional Committees meet four times per year (a combination of in person and online meetings) and play a key role in the operation of each region.
They are updated on MU regional activity across all areas of the music industry and meet to discuss and act on local issues affecting musicians.
If you have questions about either committee or would like to ask about any other ways in which you can get involved with the Union, please contact us and we’ll be happy to talk it through with you.
You can find help around writing a statement here, and if you are trying to find another member to nominate you, the ‘Find a Musician’ tool might be helpful.
