Workshop - "The Music Teaching Path: Reflections from the Inside"
10:30 am - 11:30 am
Teaching can be a fulfilling and flexible part of a musician’s career—whether you’re just starting out or already have experience in the classroom or studio. This session is for musicians who are curious about instrumental and vocal teaching, as well as those already teaching who want to broaden their understanding or refresh their approach.
David Miller brings extensive experience in music education and freelance performance in Cardiff, and will share his insights into the varied routes into instrumental and vocal teaching. He’ll explore the qualifications that may be expected, and the broad range of opportunities available—from roles in state and independent schools to working with external providers or establishing a private practice.
He’ll also reflect on the types of teaching contracts you might encounter, and how Musicians’ Union contracts and services have supported him in building a confident, sustainable teaching career.
Whether you’re new to teaching or looking to develop your existing practice, this session offers valuable insights and highlights practical resources to support your next steps.
