Invaluable professional support, advice and guidance

Andrew Green, Composer and Copyist, and Deputy-Vice-Chair of the MU’s Music Writers’ Committee discussed the potential benefits of joint membership:

“Being a member of the Musicians’ Union and the Music Writers’ Committee has provided invaluable professional support, advice and guidance throughout my career.

“The MU strives to encourage and develop best working practices in a fast changing music world so this partnership is great news - it will offer an excellent opportunity to also benefit from the Ivors Academy’s wealth of expertise.”

The MU Music Writers’ Section

The MU maintains and updates its advice and resources for songwriters and composers through the Music Writers’ Section, which is headed-up by a diverse 20-strong Committee of members who work across all sectors and genres of the industry.

The work of the Section allows us to run proactive campaigns with the Ivors Academy such as #ComposersAgainstBuyouts, which is tackling the issue of buyout deals in the audio-visual sector, and to consult our members around issues that affect their music and their careers, with a view to improving conditions and opportunities for all.

The work of our writer members is incredibly varied, ranging from those who are full-time dedicated songwriters or composers to those who write as part of a more varied career that may involve a mix of performance, teaching and recording.

We strive to support and represent all of these members, and we are pleased to be able to offer additional support, representation, and networking opportunities through this discounted joint membership.

You can join the Music Writers section now, by reviewing your preferences on your MyMU profile.
