The MU was delighted to present Raghad Haddad with Youth Music’s Inspirational Music Leader Award on 19 October, part of the Youth Music Awards ceremony that took place at London’s Troxy.

Raghad is a viola player and pianist from Yabroud, Syria. Since being granted asylum in the UK in 2018, she has worked on multiple projects supporting vulnerable children and was the musical director for I Speak Music, a project bringing together refugee and host communities.

Youth Music is a national charity that believes every young person should have the chance to change their life through music. Its insights, influence and investment in grassroots organisations and to young people themselves helps make sure that more 0-25-year-olds can make, learn and earn in music.

The MU and Youth Music

The MU is proud to sponsor the award for Inspirational Music Leader at the Youth Music Awards, reflecting the important role that so many MU members play in inspiring the next generation of professional musicians and music lovers.

Chris Walters, MU National Organiser for Education, said:

“Raghad is a most deserving winner, and we look forward to seeing her career continue to develop. We are thrilled to be working with Youth Music to honour outstanding work in musical leadership.”

In addition to sponsoring the award, the MU will provide the winner and shortlisted finalists with mentoring and career development support.
