Multiple raised hands against a bright, white sky, each holding a piece of a wooden jigsaw puzzle. A teamwork, problem-solving concept.

The MU Members’ Assembly brings together members from every committee and network in the union to explore policy issues and campaigns affecting musicians from diverse perspectives.

Its first meeting was chaired by Linton Stephens, who also chairs the union’s Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee and spoke at the union’s most recent Members’ Conference.

Members took a deep dive into the issues affecting freelancers and how the union can support members to improve pay and conditions and collective bargaining outcomes.

Upcoming meetings will focus on the climate crisis and artificial intelligence (AI).

About the Assembly

The Members’ Assembly brings together 27 members from across the union's regional and section committees and networks.

It has delegated responsibility from the union’s Executive Committee to discuss the big issues affecting musicians in depth and bring more voices into union decision-making processes.

The Assembly is modelled on citizens’ assemblies, with the union’s specialist officials called in to provide expertise where required.

At the end of each meeting, the Members’ Assembly will provide a detailed policy recommendation to the Executive Committee for further exploration.

The next meeting of the Members’ Assembly is set to take place in the autumn.
