New Guidance Document on Music Production During English Lockdown

Umbrella organisation UK Music – of which the MU is a part – has launched a new guide on working safely during Covid-19 in workplaces for music and music video production.

The new guidance from UK Music on working safely during COVID-19 in workplaces for music and music video production includes rehearsal and recording studios, and A/V capture for music videos and / or live streaming.

The guidance was drafted by UK Music Members AIM, BPI, MPG and the MU with input from DCMS, Public Health England and the Health & Safety Executive. This guidance applies to England only.

Guidance for music festivals

The Events Industry Forum, Association of Independent Festivals and Association of Festival Organisers have come together to produce guidance for music festivals in collaboration with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and Public Health England.

The Ivory Act 2018 is Being Extended to Cover Four Additional Species

The Ivory Act 2018 has now been extended to cover the common hippopotamus, killer whale, narwhal and sperm whale. These Regulations, which come into force on 28 January, may impact those who intend to sell, purchase or hire musical instruments containing ivory.

Tribute to Steve Simpson

Steve Simpson was a successful and talented musician who played guitar, mandolin, fiddle and performed vocals across the UK and internationally. He originally joined the MU in 1974. This tribute has been provided by his partner, Caroline Morgan.
