London mayor responds to the consultation on proposals to tackle air quality in London.

The Mayor of London has announced that a new Emissions Surcharge will be introduced in London from 23 October 2017. This will mean that cars, vans, minibuses and heavy vehicles driving in Central London that do not meet the emissions standards will be required to pay a £10 daily charge in addition to the Congestion Charge.  The Emissions Surcharge will mostly affect vehicles registered in 2005 and older.

The MU responded to the consultation last year and asked the Mayor to consider an exemption or reduced charge for musicians working in central London. This proposal has not been taken on board, although there will be further consultation later in the year and we will continue to argue our case.

Further information about the Emissions Surcharge is available at Transport for London.

Vehicle owners can also check if they will be required to pay the surcharge by entering their number plate into the compliance checker.
