MU Delighted at Supreme Court Ruling

The Musicians’ Union (MU) has expressed delight at today’s Supreme Court decision that has ruled that Boris Johnson’s prorogation of Parliament is not only unlawful, but also void.

The unanimous judgement means that Parliament can now reconvene and continue to debate the Prime Minister’s plans for Brexit.

MU General Secretary Horace Trubridge says:

"Brexit is the most important issue that our country has faced in a generation, and the Prime Minister’s cynical decision to shut down parliament in order to stifle opposition to his No Deal Brexit has now been ruled unlawful.

"We are delighted that MPs and Peers can now go back to work and we will be continuing our conversations with them to ensure that a No Deal Brexit, which would be a disaster for musicians, does not happen. We will also continue to argue for the UK to remain in the EU."

The MU yesterday voted for the Labour Party to campaign to remain within the European Union ahead of a general election. This motion was not passed and Labour Party policy will now be to negotiate its own Brexit deal and then hold a second referendum (within six months of winning an election) with a choice between their Brexit deal and remaining in the EU.
