Transgender Awareness Week is a time to bring focus to raising the visibility of transgender and gender non-conforming people, and address the issues the community faces.

Events

  • TUC Trade Unions for Trans Rights meeting, Brighton

If you are an ally and want to meet like minded people, you can sign up for the Trade Union Congress’ (TUC) upcoming Trade Unions for Trans and Non-binary Rights meeting. It takes place on 23 November, 11:00 am - 3:00 pm in Brighton.

  • STUC Trans Day of Remembrance Vigil, online

The Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) LGBT+ Workers’ Committee will be holding an online event to mark Trans Day of Remembrance at 6:00 pm on 20 November.

The event offers a space to remember those lost, raise awareness about the ongoing discrimination faced by transgender people, and renew STUC’s commitment to building a world that is safe and just for all. The vigil will include reflections from speakers including Jen Bell (Scottish Greens representative and Co-Convenor of Rainbow Greens). The event is open to all trade unionists and allies.

Resources

  • (TUC) Interactive guide to supporting non-binary workers

TUC Education has compiled resources and guidance on issues like hate crime, allyship, how to support non-binary workers and more.

  • (MU) LGBTQ+ travel advice for musicians

View the MU’s travel for LGBTQ+ Musicians advice page. Touring for LGBTQ+ musicians shouldn’t be a problem. However, differing attitudes and legal frameworks regarding sexual orientation and gender identity mean LGBTQ+ musicians may need to do extra preparation and research before travelling to certain countries.

  • (MU) Allyship: Working with Trans Colleagues

Allies wanting to know how to better support their trans colleagues at work should read our commissioned article by activist and author CN Lester on the Dos and Don’ts of working with trans colleagues.
