The Musicians’ Union is partnering with LIVE (Live music Industry Venues & Entertainment) to hold a free, online panel on Tuesday 1 April to discuss the topic of menopause in the live music industry.

How menopause can affect people working in live music

Menopause can have an effect on us all, whether it’s through managing menopause directly or by supporting a family member, friend or colleague experiencing symptoms.

While some will sail through menopause, three in four people experience symptoms and as many as one in four have serious symptoms.

The session will explore the facts around the menopause, symptoms and treatment options, followed by a panel session to discuss how menopause can affect people working in the live music sector.

The session will be run by Jo Lee-Morris, Head of Training from Henpicked: Menopause on the Workplace, the leading provider of menopause support and education in the workplace.

We hope the music industry will pay more attention to this issue going forward

“We're pleased to be partnering with LIVE on the very important topic of menopause, and we hope the music industry will pay more attention to this issue going forward,” says Kelly Wood, MU National Organiser for Live, Theatre and Music Writers.

“This session isn't just for those who directly experience menopause - we encourage allies to attend, and also those who are in a position to make improvements to workplaces to provide support for those who need it.

“We're delighted to be working with an incredible panel for this discussion, and looking forward to exploring how the live sector can take a more supportive, inclusive and proactive approach.”
