“Whilst the measures announced in the Budget could make a difference, I’m concerned they do not go far enough when it comes to protecting workers in highly insecure sectors."

In her letter, posted on Twitter, Allin-Khan calls on Rishi Sunak to:

  • Ensure freelancers receive financial compensation as and when they need to self isolate
  • Encourage engagers to provide financial compensation to musicians and performers when they cancel pre-booked performances
  • Propose deferments of rental payments until the coronavirus crisis has abated

“Whilst the measures announced in the Budget could make a difference, I’m concerned they do not go far enough when it comes to protecting workers in highly insecure sectors, such as the music industry.

“People should not have to choose between self-isolating or paying their bills - it is inhumane,” she writes.”
