The Birmingham Live Music Project (BLMP) team is running a survey to find out your experiences and perspectives as a part of the process of informing policymakers in Birmingham and beyond on how best to support music making.
Based on an established methodology that is funded by NESTA/Arts and Humanities Research Council, this study is geared towards mapping Birmingham’s live music ecology and collecting a wide-ranging and detailed portrait of the people whose varied activities have made it vibrant and distinctive.
As well as information about the recent disruptions, they aim to show the scale and potential of music in Birmingham more broadly.
Mapping the ecology and creating a vibrant picture
Our Midlands Regional Officer, Ben Benson, commended the project:
“Musicians in the Midlands working at all levels are facing numerous challenges to the musical landscape; the ongoing fallout and reverberations from Covid, a no deal Brexit with the impact that will have on touring in the EU, the Birmingham Clean Air Zone (BCAZ) which will have a disproportionate impact on working musicians who rehearse and perform with the BCAZ… not to mention the local retailers, studios and venues who will also be under pressure for the foreseeable future.
“This study is geared towards mapping Birmingham’s live music ecology and collecting a wide-ranging and detailed portrait of the people whose varied activities have made it vibrant and distinctive.
“This survey is a chance for you to make your experiences and perspectives a part of the process of informing policymakers in Birmingham and beyond how best to support music making in these challenging times – something the MU fully supports.”
The survey takes around 10 - 15 minutes. Many of the questions are optional but please fill out the survey as fully as you can to enable us to build as complete a picture as possible of the musical life of the city. Those who complete the survey will be enterted into a draw to win a £100 Amazon voucher.
