As you may know, all qualifying members (up to date members, resident in the UK, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) automatically benefit from the following MU insurances: Public Liability (PLI), Personal Accident, Music Teachers Professional Indemnity and Tax Investigation Cover.

This saves you both money in terms of the cost of buying them (which could run to hundreds of pounds) and hours of time in arranging them.

Before taking advantage of these covers, please read our comprehensive terms and conditions page.

A reminder regarding Instrument and Equipment Insurance (also known as MU£2K Cover or MU2K)

Every paying MU member (resident in the UK, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) can access £2,000 worth of musical instrument and equipment cover worldwide. You can also claim up to £200 per incident (maximum £500 during the annual period of insurance) should you need to hire alternative equipment and instruments.

It is important to remember however that in relation to Musical Instrument and Equipment Insurance, you are not automatically insured under our scheme when you become a member of the MU – you must register with the scheme to obtain cover. Once you have registered for the insurance, you will receive an email annually with the up-to-date terms and conditions of the cover.

If you have not yet registered (including those who have re-joined the MU and need to re-register as any break in membership will affect the cover), you can do so via our registration page. Alternatively, you can contact Hencilla directly by emailing mu2k@hencilla.co.uk or by calling 020 8686 5050.

Notice to members

This cover has been renewed by the MU from 1 September 2022 so all members that have previously registered for the MU£2K Cover (and who have not subsequently purchased/have benefit of their own MU Specified Instrument/equipment Cover, mentioned below) will continue to be insured by it. Visit the Insurance Terms and Conditions page for Schedule, Summary and Terms and Conditions downloads.

MU Specified Instrument and Equipment Cover (formally called MU additional cover)

Members can also purchase additional MU Specified Instrument and Equipment Cover for musical instruments and equipment above £2,000 and up to £150,000.

Please note, if you have currently purchased your own MU Specified Instrument/Equipment Cover (formerly called MU Additional Cover) via our brokers Hencilla, you can no longer claim under the MU£2K Scheme (mentioned above), as you receive a premium discount equivalent to £2,000. You will receive your own renewal invitation at the anniversary date of your policy.

Should you have any queries or require any assistance, please contact Mark Hopkinson at MU brokers, Hencilla on 020 8686 5050.
