The MU is relieved to hear Scottish First Minister John Swinney’s announcement that resources have now been made available to Creative Scotland.

This will re-establish the crucial funds which were closed two weeks ago, as part of a government-wide spending freeze.

We hope that the Open Fund for Individuals, YMI Access to Music Making and YMI Strengthening Youth Music Fund are reinstated and open for applications at the earliest possible opportunity.

The MU will continue engaging with Scottish Government on these matters

We remain deeply concerned about the continuing funding crisis within the sector, however, and urge the Scottish Government to do everything in its power to regain the trust of the sector following this latest u-turn, which has brought with it much uncertainty and anxiety for many creative workers.

The MU will continue its regular dialogue with the Scottish Government, with arts funding and fair work at the heart of these discussions.

We will also engage fully with any consultation on the impending review of Creative Scotland.
