About the event
Lots of membership organisations have Annual General Meetings (or 'AGM'), and trade unions are no exception. The MU has regional AGMs.
This is your chance to find out what’s going on in our region, and have your say on issues that could be affecting you.
The focus of this year’s Midlands AGM is ‘young workers’ and ‘getting active’. Having seen our membership across the region increase by over 20% in the last 10 years to over 3,600, we are the ‘go to’ organisation for representing working musicians of all ages, genres, and backgrounds. It is up to you as MU members to make the most of our collective strength to improve the working lives of musicians, not just for you, but for current and future generations.
This year’s AGM will, among other things, feature a keynote speech from Fraser McGuire (Chair of TUC Young Workers and Unite Hospitality Organiser). Fraser has been involved in the Rock City dispute and the idea is for us to discuss fresh ideas on how to approach organising issues.
We will also be hosting a special live performance from Neo Soul Midlands artist Aliyah Wiggins.
There will be a chance to network with other musicians and a Q&A session with MU officials.
We encourage in-person attendance to make the most of your AGM, and as ever, excellent catering will be provided so you don’t go thirsty or hungry!
Your AGM, Your MU
Trade unions have power because of their members, and the MU is no exception. Our democratic structures means that everything we say and do has the power of over 36,000 musicians behind it. Our AGMs are a vital part of that - from the issues you raise and discuss to standing for committees, your AGM is your opportunity to use your power.
How to attend
The AGM will be hosted in a hybrid mode:
- in-person at Lowrie Bar, The Crescent Theatre, Brindley Place, Sheepcote Street, Birmingham, B16 8AE
- and online via Zoom.
Let us know you intend to come, online or in-person, by booking a place at the AGM via the form below. Please include any access and dietary requirements.
You will need your MU membership number to complete the booking form. If you do not know your MU membership number you can find this by: logging in to your My MU account; checking your email invite from us; or contacting us directly.
