Easy Jet have confirmed that they will be changing their baggage policy from February 2021, meaning that musical instruments will have to fit within the restrictive dimensions of their regular cabin baggage, or musicians will have to purchase a seat for their instrument.
Our National Organiser Live Performance Dave Webster explains the MU’s response:
“The MU is hugely disappointed that Easy Jet have announced changes to their baggage policy that will affect Musicians.
“Up to now the Easy Jet’s policy for transporting small musical instruments in the cabin has been one of the better ones. From the 10 February 2021 that policy changes and from then, musical instruments will have to fit the more restrictive dimensions of regular cabin baggage OR buy a seat.
“We have written to Easy Jet raising our objections but they appear to be less than sympathetic to the very unique needs of musicians and their instruments which they have been more understanding of up to now. We will continue to raise this in the hope that they will grant musicians an exemption.”
We will keep members updated as this case progresses.
