Nick's love of music started at a young age listening to his father play lead guitar and vocals in the Mick Lennon rock 'n' roll band. His first foray into playing bass was using one of his dad's acoustic guitars, using the top strings only!

His first bass guitar was an Aria Pro, he was 11 years old and spent many hours practising daily. His initial influences were YES, Level 42, Nick Kershaw and the Police.

Fulfilling aspirations

As a young adult, Nick worked in Software Publishing but his true passion was making music. In 2001 he took a leap of faith and followed his dreams to play as a musician full time, working at the city's Key Theatre and in numerous local bands.

As time progressed, his talent became known. He shared the stage with musical greats such as Liquorice Locking and Alan Jones from the Shadows. He was thrilled to have been acquainted with Bruce Welch. The Shadows were where it all started many years previous.

A personal highlight in Nick's musical career was working with Enfield Guitars. He had the opportunity to showcase their guitars at the NAMM Exhibition in Los Angeles, demonstrating his bass progress along with their products.

His infamous 'Greenie Bass' was created by Grainger Guitars in their workshop.

Legacy to the craft

Nick’s friendships, with everyone he'd worked with, were filled with laughter and a love for his craft.

In more recent years, Nick's journey led him to join Genesis Connected, one of the UK's top tribute bands. He loved being part of the band, the humour they shared and the opportunity to entertain packed audiences across the length and breadth of the UK.

In his spare time, Nick ran a guitar studio, fixing and servicing guitars, as well as teaching young, aspiring musicians about the legacy of live music that he loved.

A musical tribute to Nick’s life

Born 28 December 1970, Nick passed away tragically on January 23 2025. He is survived by his mother Trisha, and sisters Kathryn and Alison who provided this tribute.

Nick's Funeral will take place at Peterborough Cathedral on Tuesday 25 February at 2.30 pm, followed by a private committal, and a musical tribute at the Cresset, Peterborough.
