2019 marks fifty years since the release of iconic album 'An Electric Storm'

Delia's most famous work would be her realisation of Ron Grainer's original Dr Who theme in 1963, an iconic piece of early electronic music. Delia also produced much music and sound for radio, theatre, film and even a fashion show. She has been regularly celebrated with an annual Delia Derbyshire Day.

A popular event in Manchester’s cultural calendar, this year Delia Derbyshire Day will be used to present the 'Electric Storm 50' project.

Electric Storm 50 honours the 50th anniversary of ‘An Electric Storm’ by White Noise (David Vorhaus, Delia Derbyshire and BBC Radiophonic workshop member Brian Hodgson).

Project manager Caro C explains:

“We are excited to unpack this seminal album which was way ahead of its time in many ways. We will uncover more of Delia’s magnificent work, this time beyond the BBC, with stories and anecdotes from David Vorhaus who worked with Delia on An Electric Storm.

“With surround sound workshops and bold new music being performed, we hope to offer another inspiring and memorable DD Day at Spirit Studios.”
