About Beth Stirling

Beth is a Scottish soprano who recently made her solo debut in the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms. She portrayed the Second Fairy in Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Prom 36, 2024).

Beth is a keen recitalist and has sung at St. Peter’s Collegiate Church in Wolverhampton, St. Philip’s Birmingham Cathedral, Holy Trinity Church in Leamington Spa and the Alexandra Theatre with her duo partner Sarah Potjewijd. The duo competed in the Stuart Cameron Smith American Song Prize in 2024, winning first prize. They have been working together since the start of their studies at the Conservatoire. Other prizes for Beth include joint first prize in the Birmingham Festival Choral Society Oratorio Prize.

Beth’s opera credits at RBC include Young Frog in The Cunning Little Vixen; 6th Spirit, Cendrillon; Tweedle Dum, Alice in Wonderland (Opera Scenes); Mélisande, Pelléas et Mélisande (Opera Scenes); Lucy, Die Dreigroschenoper (Opera Scenes); First Maid, Daphne (Opera Scenes). Concert engagements include The Messiah (Handel); Gloria (Vivaldi); Requiem (Fauré).

She began singing at the age of 8 with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Junior Chorus where she fostered her love of singing. She has sung in prestigious venues such as the Usher Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and Saint-Eustache de Paris. Beth has been singing with Ex Cathedra since 2021 and was a Student Scholar (2022-2023) and is currently an Enhanced Scholar (2024-2025). She is in her final year of vocal studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire studying under Christopher Turner, and previously Anne Dawson.

In the coming year, Beth will release her first album featuring contemporary Scottish composers. She is also playing Emmie in RBC’s production of Albert Herring directed by Rebecca Meltzer in March this year. Other engagements include St. Nicholas Mass (Haydn) and the St. John Passion (Bach).
