About the event
This session is for those working in the creative industries who would like to learn about the benefits of mindfulness, how to practice it in their everyday lives and apply it in the workplace, and key tips on supporting others where appropriate.
This workshop is particularly useful for those in a supportive role, e.g. union representatives, Wellbeing Facilitators, Mental Health First Aiders, Coaches and Mentors.
Why is it important to practise mindfulness?
Research has shown that although people are passionate about working in the creative industries, it can be very stressful at times and can have a negative impact on both our professional and personal lives.
Most of us find ourselves frequently ‘swept away’ by the current of thoughts and feelings, worries, pressures, responsibilities; wanting things to be different from how they are right now.
Mindfulness can help us to work directly with the struggle we sometimes have in relating to life’s experience and in doing so, can really improve the quality of our life.
Mindfulness practices enable us to develop the ability to pay deliberate attention to our experience from moment to moment without judgment. We learn to tune in to what is going on in our mind and body day-by-day, and to learn to really land in the here and now. There is considerable evidence to show that mindfulness reduces stress and helps build emotional resilience.
Aims of the session
The aim of this session is to introduce participants to the idea of mindfulness and enable you to practice it at home. We will explore how it can support you in reducing stress, and improving wellbeing in your working and everyday life. By the end the session, participants should be able to:
- Describe the basics of mindfulness
- Identify its effectiveness and discuss how and where mindfulness has been applied in our society
- Explore how it can effectively reduce stress and improve wellbeing
- Identify ways of using mindfulness techniques to support others
- Apply key mindfulness practices.
