About Richard Campbell
Richard Campbell is a South African film composer, arranger, orchestrator and instrumentalist based in the United Kingdom.
His scoring credits include the short films Business As Usual (screened on Showmax in collaboration with AFDA), Dark Moon (screened at the 2020 Croatia Film and Music Festival), and the UWE student film The Turtle Graveyard. He has also scored Abrahamse & Meyer’s theatre production of Tennessee Williams’ Night of the Iguana, staged in Provincetown, Massachusetts in 2019, and collaborated again to score their production of Athol Fugard’s renowned play, My Children! My Africa! He has also scored the keynote presentation Beating Chains by Rusty Labuschagne that has been presented all over South Africa. As a composer of production music, he has released an album for Mama Dance Music Library in Cape Town, a self-produced instrumental EP called Dreams, currently streaming on all major platforms, and is currently writing for a UK-based music library.
Richard has worked as an arranger since 2007 and has been sought-after for this skill by local and international clients. He has also built a love for musical theatre, acting as Musical Director for amateur productions such as Evita, Annie Get Your Gun, Bat Boy: The Musical, and The Pirates of Penzance, for which he also orchestrated the entire score. Since moving to the UK, Richard has gained shows under his belt as keyboardist and musical director, and plays the trumpet with the Orpington Symphony Orchestra.
Richard’s music embraces a harmonic cinematic style, influenced by giants such as Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams, and is designed to speak to the audience’s emotional responses and draw them deeper into what they see on stage or screen.
His work, paired with his ability to tackle a variety genres, has been well-received by his diverse clientele, making him a valuable asset to any production looking for the right music to enhance their vision.
