About Patasonus / Mario Guarnieri
Patasonus is the moniker for the solo music work by Mario Guarnieri. These are textural and expressionist sounds activating the senses; sonic concepts for the worlds of film, video, art, installations, performance, theatre, dance... and listening.
Patasonus tracks have been broadcast on Resonance FM - A Duck In A Tree, :zoviet*france:; Sonic Imperfections, Nigel Bryant; and Gwaith Sŵn’s Sonic Darts.
Mario Guarnieri is also a London-based free-improvisational drummer collaborating and playing live in different musical combos, having played at Iklectik, Hundred Years Gallery, Lewisham Arthouse (curated by Charles Hayward), and a live session on Ben Watson’s OTL Show on Soho Radio. He plays regularly at the Lo Fi Ensemble workshops and Eddie Prévost’ London Improvisation Workshop.
During the 90’s and 00’s Mario Guarnieri was the drummer with The Positively Testcard, known mainly for their live performances of upbeat and very danceable kwela tunes. Live performances included the Left Field stage at Glastonbury 2007, and live sessions for BBC Radio programmes such as: Andy Kershaw and (the late) Charlie Gillett, plus appearances on Loose Ends, The Arts Hour, Mel and Sue, Phil Jupitus and more. The Positively Testcard also released 4 cd’s: ‘The Indestructible Beat Of South Norwood’; ‘Gas Up My Hotrod Stoker’; ‘Let’s Do The Kwela’ and ‘World Cup Kwela’. They also contributed tracks to two compilation cd’s: ‘Dark Was The Night’ a tribute to Blind Willie Johnson (which includes contributions from Martin Simpson, 3 Mustaphas 3, and (the late) Mike Seeger , and ‘Music Minds’ (Musicians Helping Mental Health, which included contributions from Graham Gouldman, Glenn Tilbrook, Philip Rambow, Phil Manzanera and Steve Nieve).
