Resource Round-up For Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness (MHA) week takes place 18-24 May this year. We’re using this time to share some useful online resources for musicians, for you to use and share.

This year’s MHA week is happening during a global pandemic – and we know that financial struggle, health worries, isolation and many other factors are causing a huge amount of strain on our members.

Even in less exceptional times, mental health at work is a trade union issue. At least one in six people experience ill mental health, and in the music industry that number is even higher.

It’s important that you have the resources to support your mental health, and that you know where to seek extra support should you need it.

Getting and sharing support

We’ve published a list of resources that you can use during the Covid-19 pandemic – including helplines which offer advice and support to anyone in the music industry, and downloadable guides on staying mentally well – on our mental health support page.

Help Musicians’ conducted a detailed research project into ill mental health in the music industry – this report summarises their findings on how musicians and others working within the wider music industry experience mental health concerns. BAPAM publish some great, easy to digest factsheets on staying physically and mentally well. Two mental health documents that we particularly recommend are, “Psychological Self-Care: Enhancing Mental Health and Wellbeing,” and their factsheet on stress and drinking problems, “The Drinks Are On Me!

Brexit Lobbying Update
