Off The Record Launch Music Industry Events and Advice for 16-25s in Scotland

The virtual event series takes place in November and will focus on subjects such as releasing, promotion and live, with opportunities to network and ask questions.

This year the MU is sponsoring Off The Record (OTR). Founded by Community Interest Company Wide Events in 2013, OTR is a series of events for young musicians and those who want to work in the industry.

It’s open to anyone aged 16-25 and is designed to equip young people with music business knowledge, information and skills to help them forge a career in Music.

OTR will host three virtual evenings on November 28, 29 and 30, and they are open to anyone in Scotland aged 16-25. Each event will individually focus on releasing, promotion or live topics, with additional panels, Q&A’s and 15 Minutes of ‘knowledge and networking’ sessions.

Off The Record Presents ‘Releasing’

Tuesday 28 November, online 4:00pm - 7:00pm.

This session will cover:

  • Getting your music online
  • Releasing Physically
  • Creating a release campaign timeline, playlist pitching and radio submissions
  • Rights and royalties
  • Funding opportunities

Off The Record Presents ‘Promotion’ 

Wednesday 29, November, online 4:00pm - 7:00pm.

Including sessions covering: 

  • Getting Press Ready - contact media, press releases, biographies and EPKS
  • Everything you need to know about music photography
  • Social media and digital advertising
  • Expanding your networks
  • Getting the most out of TikTok

Off The Record Presents ‘Live’

Thursday 30 November, online 4:00pm - 7:00pm.

Including sessions covering: 

  • Building an audience 
  • A DIY approach to live 
  • Ticketing services and how to use attendee data 
  • Getting gigs, promoters and festivals, deals and what to expect
  • Showcasing and music industry conventions

Please note that the Off The Record event series is not open to anyone over 25. However, if you subscribe to their YouTube channel, you will get an alert when new sessions are added. You can also watch panel events via the Wide Days YouTube channel.

MU Sponsors The Night With Festival

The Night With Festival takes place 14 -15 December in Glasgow. It offers an interesting programme of classical evening performances, as well as a daytime industry schedule. MU and Regional Officer Louise Stanners Pow will also be in attendance, offering 1-2-1 drop in sessions.
