The MU were concerned to hear reports from members that BBC Radio Scotland was not intending to offer a fee to panellists judging the BBC Radio Scotland Young Jazz Musician Award.

Having spoken to the Senior Producer involved in this competition, we are pleased to learn that they have revised their position and panellists will now be paid a fee.

It is right they are now paying musicians for their time and expertise

Musicians should be paid for their time and this has never been more important as the sector recovers from the impact of Covid-19, Brexit making touring more difficult and as the cost of living crisis continues to rumble on.

The BBC should be setting the standard, and it is right they are now paying musicians for their time and expertise.

The MU is only aware of these issues when members bring them to our attention. In the first instance, please always contact your Regional Office.
