BAPAM Launches Healthy Performance Training Series in Belfast

BAPAM have launched an innovative new series of workshops in Belfast, covering a range of performance issues – from mental health to injury prevention and vocal health.

BAPAM offers training to performers of all types and instruments

Research looking at health issues within performing arts consistently finds that 70-75% of the workforce reports both mental and physical health problems, which is much higher than the national average.

BAPAM are working with several health and wellbeing experts – offering training to performers across the UK, with the aim of reducing the levels of poor health and supporting performers to have a sustainable career.

Upcoming workshops in Belfast

These workshops will take the form of two-hour introductory sessions, designed for performing arts professionals and students. They will outline risk factors and key strategies on their various subjects.

All three workshops will be held at the Oh Yeah Music Centre, 15-21 Gordon Street, Belfast, BT1 2LG

The three upcoming workshops in Belfast are:

Keeping Mentally Well: Managing Performance Anxiety

Friday 20 September
1:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Participants will learn skills for optimal performance practice including pre and post-performance techniques, how to identify signs of performance and arts-career related mental health problems, and how to manage problems including performance anxiety, promoting good health, and where to find help.

Physical Health and Injury Prevention

Thursday 19 September
10:30 am – 12:30 pm

Participants will learn how to avoid injury, identify the signs and symptoms of musculoskeletal problems, what to do to promote good health, and where to go for help.

1:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Participants will learn how to avoid vocal problems and identify the signs and symptoms if they do occur, how to manage issues, promote good health, and where to go for help.

Working with the MU and other partners such as Equity and Help Musicians UK, BAPAM are expanding their national training programme to support healthy performance across the UK.
