Upcoming Workshops & Events in the Midlands

Save the dates – a look at the festivals, workshops and events coming up in the Musicians’ Union (MU) Midlands Region.

We have several festivals, workshops, & events lined-up for the rest of 2017. Remember to save the dates and keep an eye out for announcements as booking opens for each event.

Upcoming events include:
  • A presentation and presence throughout the Birmingham, Solihull and Sandwell Jazz festival, Friday 14 – Sunday 23 July.
  • A course in using pro-logic software, taking place at Blue Whale studios in Birmingham. This will be a follow-up to the popular ‘Recording Techniques’ workshop held earlier this year.
  • A vocal looping workshop run by internationally-acclaimed human beat-box Tobias Hug. Following successful workshops in London, Tobias will be running vocal looping workshops across the Midlands, Wales & South West, and Scotland & N Ireland Regions in September.
  • A song-writing workshop exploring composition, approach to co-writing, from demo to final cut examples, and top-tips for capturing inspiration when it strikes.
  • A tax workshop aimed specifically at self-employed musicians looking at the self-assessment process, and how to make sense of this complex and confusing side of your business.
  • 1-2-1 sessions across the region with the MU and representatives from PRS for Music – a chance for 1-2-1 careers advice with MU & PRS officials. If you create content, understanding PRS royalties is key to carving out a sustainable career in song-writing.
  • Free PAT testing for MU members with portable electrical equipment – venues & dates to be confirmed.

Members with a specific idea about the types of MU workshops they would like to attend can send their suggestions & ideas to MU Midlands Regional Officer Ben Benson.
