What is FEU Training? And why do we need it? FEU Training’s Frances swung by MU HQ to talk to young members from across the entertainment sector about this invaluable training programme…
What is FEU Training? FEU stands for the Federation of Entertainment Unions. The MU got together with other unions in the entertainment sector to maximise lobbying power and resources. And, with Equity, The Writers’ Guild of Great Britain and National Union of Journalists, to provide joint support to members through FEU Training.
Why do we need it? To give you opportunities to learn the skills you need to survive and thrive as a freelancer.
How does it help you? Sian is a percussionist, she is in a number of original bands, including She Drew the Gun, does covers work and teaching. She wants to learn effective ways to market her talents. There’s a course for that. Alessandro, a singer-songwriter, wants to learn about copyright and negotiating contracts. Hannah, who teaches singing and is in the band Kid Karoshi, wants to learn some business skills; she is yet to fill in her first tax return. FEU Training runs courses teaching you about all of these and more.
Can’t get to any of the sessions? There are online courses and extra resources so you can learn at home, or on the go.
How much is it? Free for members of any of the unions involved. So if you’re an MU member, head over to FEU Training and register now.
Keep an eye out. FEU Training shifts focus every few months. So if there’s something you need advice on, ask them – you can make it happen. You can also contact your MU Regional Office for specific advice on any aspect of your career.
