Head of Membership

About the MU

The Musicians' Union (MU) represents 32,000 musicians across the UK working in all sectors of the music business.

As well as negotiating on behalf of our members with all the major employers in the industry, we offer a range of support services for professional and student musicians of all ages and backgrounds.

Key to our operations is our Membership Services Department, based in London and across four Regional Offices, where we have a vacancy for a Head of Membership commencing Monday 4 January 2021.

About the role

As Head of Membership, you will have overall responsibility for the Membership Services Department.  You will lead the MUs team of eight Membership Services Assistants (MSAs), three of which will directly report to you and five of which you will work in collaboration with the Regional Organisers in order to supervise their workload.

You will ensure the effective operation of all membership services systems and procedures, particularly with regard to prompt and accurate collection of subscription fees from members.  You will ensure compliance with financial systems and procedures, liaising with external suppliers as well as colleagues internally.

You will report to the Secretariat and other colleagues on member data, trends and potential recruitment and retention opportunities and act as a source of escalation for difficult or specialist membership related queries.  You will also take part in or lead projects and initiatives related to the recruitment and retention of members or where member data is involved.

You will have management experience as well as a good knowledge of membership database systems.  An appreciation of the ethos of the trade union movement is also crucial.

We are offering a salary of £60,550 as well as a contribution towards a personal pension scheme. The annual leave entitlement for this post is 30 days, excluding public holidays.
